Valencia 1 july 2025
The third Study Tour organised by IWG5 Buildings took place in Valencia on 1 July 2025.
Participants visited an example of sustainable building design: the Imagine Montessori School, awarded BREEAM Excellent and GBC Green 4 Leaves certifications. The building demonstrates high environmental performance, achieving 45% energy savings, a 21% reduction in water consumption, and a 47% decrease in CO₂ emissions. Key features of the building also include an advanced air quality and ventilation system with CO₂ monitoring and natural cross-ventilation; energy-efficient VRV climate control technology that reduces energy consumption by up to 50%; intelligent lighting solutions utilizing automated LED systems and natural daylight; the integration of solar photovoltaic panels and a rainwater collection system; and the use of carefully selected eco-friendly building materials.
Furthermore, the study tour included a presentation at Barrio La Pinada, a pioneering sustainable neighbourhood initiative in Spain. This project integrates environmental, social, and economic sustainability principles into urban development. Covering 30 hectares of green infrastructure, Barrio La Pinada enhances biodiversity, air quality, and residents’ access to nature. It fosters community engagement and lifelong learning through sustainability initiatives and the promotion of innovative practices.
